Rita Ntosi is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner who currently works at Doctor Community Rehab and Patient Care Center, Lanham, Maryland. She began her nursing career in 1984 in Benin Nigeria, where she obtained her associate degree in Nursing. She proceeded to the Midwifery School at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu and was certified as a Midwife by the Nigerian Nursing and Midwifery Council in 1987. Her desire for an in-depth knowledge in nursing science led her to obtain a Bachelor of Nursing Science (BSN) degree from University of Nigeria Enugu Campus at a time when only a few universities in Nigeria offered the program. In her quest to practice intercontinental nursing, she obtained the Certificate of Graduate of Foreign Nursing Student (CGFNS), which propelled her to practice nursing in USA. She obtained her MSN from Marymount University, Arlington, Virginia.
She has practiced in various settings including acute care, home health, public health, nursing education and now in long term care where she has made great impact on the lives of her patients, staff and co-workers. She serves as the wound care specialist at her current job and has served in various committees. Her professional interest includes Health promotion, Advanced Care Planning, Wound Care and Education with emphasis on precepting new hires and MSN/DNP students.
Her college affiliations include but not limited to University of Maryland (Unisom), George Washington University Washington D.C. and Bowie State University, Maryland. She is the current national President-Elect of National Association of Nigerian Nurse Practitioners (NANNPU). She is currently a DNP(c) at Chatham University, Pennsylvania. Outside her professional life, she enjoys traveling, entertaining families and friends, public speaking, and watching movies. She is married with two wonderful children.
