My name is Sandra Akinsete-Lake, board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to practice in the state of Maryland. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Washington Adventist University, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Master’s degree in Nursing and Nursing Education (Subspecialty) from University of South Alabama. I graduated with a Cum Laude from Washington Adventist University, member of Sigma Theta Tau International, and Alpha Chi honor society. I am an instructor with American Heart Association certified to teach basic life support, first aid and CPR. I have worked in every nursing field from intensive care unit, telemetry, medsurg, obgyn, psychiatry, emergency room, and a role a nurse educator.
I currently work with one of the largest behavioral organization in the nation providing mental health services to patients in nursing homes, assisted living, and memory care homes. I also work at an outpatient clinic treating children and adults with mental illness. I enjoy volunteering my service to the community. I have participated in Sister to Sister foundation campaign against women’s heart disease, Susan G. Komen race for the cure, American kidney fund and host of other community work. I am a strong believer of “treating others how you would like to be treated”.
Those who associate with me know that I am a positive thinker; I never allow negative thoughts to overshadow my priorities in life which was the motivation to achieving my Doctorate degree within eight years of been a registered nurse. My knowledge and approach are grounded in utilizing current evidence based, holistic and collaborative approach to provide utmost care.
