Dr. Deborah graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor’s (2003) and Master’s degree (2009) in Nursing. Dr. Okonofua has gained valuable knowledge and experience in healthcare. She has worked in various institutions as a nurse and nurse practitioner. She graduated from Chatham University in 2012 with a Doctorate degree in nursing. In 2011, Dr. Okonofua established 2 family practices in DC and Maryland.
For the past 3 years, these family practices have flourished under her leadership and management, serving hundreds of families and individuals per year. Dr. Okonofua has expanded her scope, leadership and management skills by precepting nursing students from various institutions. As a nurse leader, Dr. Okonofua aims to ensure that the current opportunities for independence and professional autonomy that exist for nurse practitioners are expanded so that nurse practitioners will be able to perform and thrive fully in their careers.
As an advocate for health equity, Dr. Okonofua endeavors to utilize her knowledge and leadership skills to find solutions to health care problems that persistently plague under-resourced and disadvantaged communities and groups. Dr. Okonofua is married with four beautiful children. She likes gospel music, cooking, traveling and entertainment.
